The students who needed it most could not reach it.

I started tutoring in grade 11, running my high school's tutoring club, because good teaching was expensive and the students who needed it most could not reach it. That has not changed. Meynen Tutoring exists so that a family can put a real tutor in front of their child at a price that does not require a family meeting first.

Most tutoring treats the grade as the whole job. A student who passes the test and still cannot plan a week has not been helped very much. So our sessions cover the material and the things around it: how to organise a term, how to budget the fortnight before an exam, what is worth reading outside the syllabus. Those are the parts that outlast the course.

I have not yet met one who could not do it.

The thing I am most stubborn about is finishing. Students arrive having been told by several adults what they are not capable of. It sometimes takes longer than anybody wanted, and we get there.

I do not do this alone. Meynen Tutoring hires undergraduates from Toronto, McMaster, Waterloo and other Canadian universities, and puts each one in front of students in the subject they are genuinely strongest at rather than whatever happens to be free.
